The Scope of HKSI Exam

The HKSI Exam for Securities and Futures Intermediaries, also known as the HKSS, is a professionally developed examination for those in Hong Kong wishing to become securities and futures brokers. This is an important and preeminent exam for those wishing to work in the multi-trading sector of the financial services industry in Hong Kong. The exam was created by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) in consultation with the International Securities Exchange Association (ISEA). The Hong Kong government is the Registrar of Companies for the licensing scheme.

The exam is one of two entrance exams required for those wishing to work as a futures or commodity trader in Hong Kong. The other exam, which is also known as the Cosmetics Registration Examination, is simpler. The entrance exam is available to all prospective futures and commodity traders. However, the exam has been designed to ensure that only those who are the best qualified to work in the highly competitive and volatile trading sector can register for the exam. As with the HKSS examination, the entrance exam also requires you to meet a minimum age.

The Hong Kong economy has changed dramatically over the last twenty years. During the early part of the decade, the city was primarily a manufacturing base for China. Now it is a global financial center. The rapid growth of the local economy has meant that the number of jobs in related sectors has increased rapidly, especially in the trading sector.

The competitiveness of the trading sector means that the wages paid to employees are very high in Hong Kong. The salaries are typically higher than those paid in many other parts of the world. It is common for an hourly income of at least forty thousand pounds a year to be earned in a typical office in the city. In addition, there is a heavy reliance on foreign investment in the economy, both direct and indirect.

There are two ways to study for the HKSI exam. First, you can take a regular class at the local Education Department. The beauty of this method is that you will be able to interact with an actual trained professional who can answer questions directly. Of course, this will mean additional expense, but it can be well worth it.

Another method of study is through online courses. There are quite a few websites that offer free tutorials and advice to help you prepare for the Hong Kong HKSI exam. These sites have many advantages over books or classes. For example, you can learn at your own pace. Most importantly, if you are unable to attend a live class, you can take your work at home and carry on from there.
